Running Lean

Posted on Updated on

I was driving from Socorro to Rio Rancho yesterday, and the engine light illuminated.  I quickly stopped at an AutoZone to get the codes read.  As it turns out, both banks are running lean.  Because I had the throttle body replaced, I think it may have to do with the reprogramming that took place.

A little while later, closer to home, the missing fuel cap light came on.  I just put a new fuel cap on the car a week or so earlier, and it is in place and tightened.

I don’t know what is going on, but I think I will try having the fuel system cleaned and see if that fixes things.

New Tires

My tires were recalled.  All four of them were replaced for free today, 40,000 miles after I bought them!  They are even a slight upgrade.

200,000 Miles… and a Tire Recall

Posted on Updated on

The Crown Vic reached 200,000 miles this week!  It was a challenge to see it, as the odometer is so dim that I had to pull over every few hundred yards, place a blanket over the steering wheel, and peer underneath.

I also received paperwork that said my tires have been recalled.  I will have to go and have them replaced (for free, thankfully), as the sidewalls are prone to splitting.  When I went out and examined my tires, I could see that they were cracked, so this will need to be done.

New Battery

Posted on Updated on

I have had a tough time starting the car for the past week or so. The battery sounded weak, and eventually, it did not have enough juice to start the car. After a few jumpstarts with the battery box, I took it to Firestone and had the battery replaced. I had them test the alternator too, which seems to be working fine.

Catching Up

I am way behind on updating this blog.  I’ve put another 15,000 miles on it since the last post.  In that time, I’ve done several oil changes, as well as replaced the front brake pads and rotors, as well as the throttle body.

183,336 miles, 5/14/17:  Oil change, front brake rotors and front brake pads
???,??? miles, 6/18/17:  Car stopped running on I-40 eastbound in Oklahoma.  Pulled over, waited and restarted the car with no additional problems.  Threw a throttle code.
195,161 miles, 6/22/17:  Oil change, throttle body replacement, fuel system cleaning

Oil Change, 180017 Miles

I had the oil changed today at the Firestone near Southern and Unser.  I had them use the high mileage oil, and they charged just over $42, which is a bit steep.

They mentioned that the battery is weak as well, but everything else checked out alright.  They put the wrong mileage on all of my paperwork, however, as my dash is hard to read.

I don’t know if I mentioned this, but I’ve had a cracked windshield for a few weeks now.  I also stopped the anti-freeze smell by adding some anti-freeze stop-leak to my coolant.

Windshield and Heater

Posted on Updated on

I noticed a crack in the windshield a few mornings ago.  It hasn’t spread, but I noticed it.  It’s starting from the passenger’s side on the bottom.

The heater still smells like antifreeze, so we haven’t been running it.
